The Leading Reflux Doctors In Tampa Bay

Our team is comprised of the most experienced foregut/esophageal surgeons in the southeastern United States. While they specialize in the treatment of a variety of esophageal conditions such as acid reflux, hiatal hernias, and LPR, they’re also considered some of the top experts in the diagnosis and surgical management of GERD.

Acid reflux, a symptom commonly associated with GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), affects around 60 million Americans every month and 25 million people every day. Currently in the United States alone, patients are spending over $10 billion a year on over the counter and prescription medications to treat acid reflux. Many of these medications have been linked to long-term health risks, and although they successfully ease the symptoms of chronic acid reflux and GERD for a time, none of them treat the root cause of these symptoms. We believe the only way to truly cure acid reflux and GERD is to treat the source of the disease itself through minimally invasive surgery.

There are two primary types of reflux surgery available for patients with GERD which we perform here at Tampa Bay Reflux Center: Lap Nissen Fundoplication, and the LINX surgery. Both are either minimally invasive or noninvasive, are performed as outpatient procedures here in our office, and have proven incredibly effective in the treatment of GERD.

Lap Nissen Fundoplication

Nissen Fundoplication is a surgical procedure designed to prevent acid reflux by reinforcing a weak lower esophageal sphincter with the patient's stomach - folding a portion of the stomach around the LES to create an esophageal acid barrier.

LINX Reflux Management System

The LINX® System is a small, flexible band of magnets enclosed in titanium beads that is placed around the lower esophageal sphincter in order to tighten it. The magnetic attraction between the beads helps keep the weak LES closed to prevent reflux.
